                                                                                                                                                                             ★ ‘ATTILA’ (Friday and Monday) Marco Armiliato, who has proved a solid house conductor at the Metropolitan Opera and is capable of top-notch work, has the unenviable assignment of taking over from Riccardo Muti in the Met’s new production of Verdi’s “Attila.” In his overdue Met debut, Mr. Muti, an acclaimed exponent of Verdi and a particular champion of this overlooked 1846 work, drew a revelatory performance from the Met orchestra and chorus and the impressive cast. The lead singers remain for the duration of the run. In the title role the rich-voiced Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov sings with robust sound and lyrical vigor. The fearless soprano Violeta Urmana is riveting in the daunting role of Odabella, the Italian warrior maiden with whom Attila falls in love. The production by Pierre Audi offers a strange mixture of the abstract and the surreal. (Through March 27.)
